King David was known to be a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22), however, during his reign over Israel, he committed an affair with a married woman and then had her husband murdered to cover it up. When David was confronted with his sin he was deeply grieved and wrote Psalm 51. David knew what it was like to carry around the burden of guilt. In verses 2 and 3 he writes: “Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin. For I recognize my rebellion; it haunts me day and night.” (Psalms 51:2-3 NLT)
Now many may wonder how can David be considered a man after God’s own heart even after committing adultery and murder? Well, I think one of the main reasons is found in this Psalm. David was not perfect, but when he realized he offended his God he made every effort to respond correctly. In today’s video, we’re looking at Psalm 51 to learn how to correctly respond to our sin so we may live free from guilt. Enjoy!
